FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 5, 2008

Columbus, OH – In a November 5 press release, the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency announced its Fiscal Year (FY) 2009 Application Guidance for federal funding to assist state and local governments in strengthening community preparedness.

In FY 2009, DHS will award more than $3 billion in grants, $24 million more than last year, to states, urban areas and transportation authorities under 14 programs to bolster national preparedness capabilities and protect critical infrastructure.

New this year, DHS is announcing targeted grant allocations up front for the State Homeland Security Program (SHSP) and the Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI).

Among other things, DHS’s 2009 funding priorities emphasize preparedness planning and information sharing capabilities, enhancing our ability to prevent, protect against, respond to and recover from terrorist attacks, major disasters and other emergencies.

Disaster planning and response depend on effective communications – whether you need to alert the public, mobilize responders, or issue an evacuation notice. TFCC’s Universal Communications System is the right tool for the mission, and qualifies for purchase using a Homeland Security grant.
